Koa Skin is founded by Caitlin Morrison. Caitlin has an intense passion when it comes to the science behind the function of the body, specifically, skin.
This passion emerged when very young (13) and has only grown over the years. After having a successful business for over 10 years focused solely on the beauty industry, her desire for furthering her knowledge was peaked. This is an amazing industry which is so dynamic, she knew there was a lot more to learn within it.
After discovering the Bachelor of Health Science (Dermal Therapies) degree, she made the massive decision to re-locate from the Gold Coast, Queensland to Victoria in 2009 to undertake the education she craved. This scientific base allowed not only a greater understanding and appreciation of the systemic functions within the body, but also the domino effects that can result in referred issues developing from under appreciated conditions or inappropriate treatments undertaken. It was from this education that Koa Skin was born, in 2012 as part of the now defunct, Silks Hair Removal Studio.
Education simply does not cease at the degree. Given the ever changing, dynamic nature of the para medical aesthetic industry, Caitlin will be looking to further expand her skill set by undertaking post graduate qualifications following the completion of her current degree and regularly undertakes additional courses from both manufacturers and suppliers. As well as being a regular fixture at medical and aesthetic conferences both locally and abroad to maintain the highest level of knowledge, understanding and innovation to remain at the very forefront of not only current methods and treatment options, but insight in the future of the industry and its expectations.
Mentoring and support within the industry is also paramount for Caitlin, with professional affiliation with a number of associations including:
Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ASDC)
- Hair and Beauty Association (HABA)
Caitlin strongly believes, that if you want to enact change within an industry, it must be covered from all levels - from grassroots, right through to federal lobbying. This can only be attained with involvement and proactive action, so maintaining association connections not only allow networking opportunities for professional enrichment, but increased market recognition and exposure can only serve to increase consumer understanding, awareness and education. Caitlin’s qualifications are always on display within the clinic and she strongly encourages all consumers of para medical treatments to be proactive in expecting all their treatment providers to have a similar level of disclosure of their current education level and qualifications. This ensures you, as the consumer, can make a fully informed decision when selecting the person you will be putting not only your money into, but your body, too! If it is not readily shown, do not be afraid to ask!
Unfortunately, given the lack of regulation of this industry (which Caitlin hopes to be able to contribute towards to enact change), has allowed some operators to tarnish the industry with ill-conceived treatment options, leaving lasting, unwanted results for some patients. This is a very sad reflection on the industry as a whole and is, unfortunately, not uncommon. It is Caitlin’s hope that once you, the patient are educated in expecting more from your clinician, not only in treatment options and delivery, but high expectations of education foundation, market expectations, along with the increase in regulation recognition. This will ensure that adverse outcomes due to poor operator training, inadequate treatment delivery and post care services will be a thing of the past, rather than the ever increasing trend, that we currently are seeing.
